theStudio, a Tyneside-based group of colaberating creatives is boosting the region’s creative and cultural sector through its innovative services. theStudio recently demonstrated their creativity, by giving away 40 free digital cameras to delegates at a leading trade fair for social entrepreneurs in Yorkshire. Delegates subsequently took 200 photographs showcasing their experiences throughout the day. The Studio has turned these photographs into a storybook. A Snapshot on Social Enterprise is now available to those who attended as well as those who missed out on the big event.
The Footsey 100 social enterprise trade fair attracted approximately 600 delegates from social enterprises from all parts of the country. The innovative approach of theStudio has culminated in great interest in their creative services across the North of England. Bruce Allinson of the theStudio believes that they made a memorable impact: “We decided that we would offer an alternative approach to typical scene of people thrusting business cards at each other. Instead, the delegates have helped us capture a really positive day. From body-poppers working with kids to fair trade coffee firms, we’ve got them all in this publication.” “On the day the project acted as a great ‘icebreaker’.How often do you go to trade fairs and networking events and come away with a digital camera?” Based in the stunning new multimedia incubator suite i6 Charlotte Square in Newcastle, theStudio returned from a national social enterprise trade fair in Rotherham with more than a bulging order book. theStudio provides a range of communication solutions for an array of active businesses and organisations in all sectors. As a consequence of the increasing complexity of working life, theStudio’s creative workers believe that many businesses could be at risk of losing their individual character and brand values. theStudio offers clients an increasingly valuable commodity: ‘a place close to permanent creativity’. The importance of creative businesses such as theStudio is increasing acknowledged by the region’s top economic thinkers. A recent report from the Tyne Wear Partnership claims that it is essential to Tyne and Wear’s local economy that cities like Newcastle attract and retain highly skilled people such as those behind The Studio. The 2005 Tyne Wear Economic Strategy states: ‘We must increase the number of high quality jobs in the sub-region and create the right business and cultural environment to attract and retain more successful, creative people.’ To get a copy of A Snapshot on Social Enterprise call The Studio on 0191 211 1976 or email
